Avocado + Kiwi Mask

Briogeo just launched their new Avocado and Kiwi Mega Moisture Hair Mask, and like most of their products, this one surpasses expectations again! I’m not one to frequently use hair masks because of how notoriously messy and time consuming they are, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found out this one is very similar to a conditioner. This taffy green mask features avocado, kiwi, and spinach to deliver vitamin c and antioxidants as well as nourish and condition hair.

The first thing I do when looking at a new hair product is quickly scan the top ingredients. Ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, alcohol denat, methanol, and other drying alcohols are complete deal breakers for me. I want to be keeping my hair for as long as possible!

Here are the first few ingredients listed on this hair mask:

Water/Aqua/Eau, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Brassica Alcohol, Propanediol, Cetyl Esters, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Fruit Extract, Spirulina Maxima Extrac

You might be thinking “Wait a min, I see a ton of alcohol here!” That’s true, but I’ve learned over the years there are good and bad types of alcohol. Cetyl and Stearyl alcohols are fatty alcohols that help to soothe and moisturize the skin, and brassica alcohol is an emollient derived from cabbage (that doesn’t sound very dangerous does it). These types of alcohols help to give products their soft waxy feel, and they actually provide lots of benefits to our skin. So after going through the ingredient list, I determined that all of the ingredients are safe and good to use!

Right when I opened this mask, a big whiff of tropical skittles hit me. I like the sweet smell (it doesn’t come across as that nauseating sweet smell), but it can definitely be a bit much if you’re sensitive to those types of scents. Other than that, the mask is super convenient to use. After I apply a dollop to my ends, all I have to do is wait five minutes before washing it off. No DIY t-shirt over night business for this one! It washes off really easily and doesn’t leave any sticky residue.

The label directs you to use this mask 1-2 times a week in replacement of conditioner. Personally, I have really straight hair, so I didn’t notice a huge difference in frizz or hydration, but my sister and mom were immediately big fans of this mask! They both have curly hair that often gets tangled, and this mask really helped to both smooth and condition their hair and also prevent tangles and breakage.

Final thoughts: This mask retails for $36 USD, which I consider to be on the pricier side for a conditioner-like product. I really like this mask, but would say for straight to normal hair types, it isn’t absolutely necessary… a regular conditioner will do the trick. However, for my curly and unruly hair gals, if you are in deep need for some serious moisture, this mask may be what you’re looking for. I know it can be super frustrating and difficult to maintain curlier hair, so I think this mask will be a great product to make it more manageable. Think of it as a conditioner on steroids. And plus, this mask is clean-certified, so there’s no harm in switching over to a conditioner with healthier ingredients.

I hope this post answers some of your questions about this new launch! The hunt for better looking and feeling hair never stops :)
