Mint Obsessions

I’m so excited to be reviewing this limited edition Huda Mint Obsessions eye shadow palette. It’s a little more colorful than what I would expect myself to pick, but I love it so much. Duck egg blue is my favorite color, so I’m really living for all these different minty shades! I’d been eyeing this palette for a while and wasn’t sure how wearable the colors were going to be, but I’ve found some simple yet chic ways to wear these bright colors that I’ll be sharing. Even for a neutrals gal, these looks are still minimalistic and classy.

This palette is $29 USD and comes with nine different shades: some mattes, shimmers, and marbles. I wanted to give you all the best representation of these colors, so I pulled the swatches of these shadows from Sephora’s site. I swatched them myself and the colors come off how they look in this picture! From left to right, these are the shades (I love the names so much): Pistachio Matte, Mint Shimmer, Apple Green Matte, Caramel Mint Swirl, Mint Silver Shimmer, Bronze Shimmer, Tan Matte, Turquoise Mint Swirl, Teal Matte.

I haven’t tried Huda shadows before this palette, but I have to say that they are as creamy and blendable as everyone says. Especially with the matte shades, even when I initially swatched them they were so soft. I thought this would lead to some fallout when applying it to my lids, but I’ve played around with different intensity looks and no fallout. Yay!

I have a few tips that made my application process a lot smoother. For all the shadows in this palette, it’s very important to put a base underneath, whether it’s a concealer, a bit of foundation, or a primer base. Because the matte shades are so light, the pigment needs something to cling to. The pigmentation is best preserved when I use my finger to put down the initial color for both the mattes and shimmers. This way, I waste less product and I can pack on the most color in one go. After I get a rough placement of what I want, I go in with a fluffy brush to lightly blend the edges.

Now for some of my favorites! My absolute favorite shades are Caramel Mint Swirl and Teal Matte.

Caramel Mint Swirl looks like it will be brown hued on the eye, but I feel like that would only happen if you pack ten coats on lol. I used one or two swipes with my finger and it comes off as much more of an icy white shimmer with an ever so slight light blue and purple shift. What I love so much about this shadow is how it looks wet on the eye. It’s as if I applied a lid dew or one of Natasha Denona’s crystal top coats. Even when the light isn’t directly on my lids, they still look wet! I never really believed that a powder could have this effect, but sure enough this shade proved me wrong. It’s so beautiful and would look stunning with a plum or muted green base underneath.

Teal Matte is the color that initially drew my attention to the palette. I was searching for a good turquoise eye shadow and this one is nothing short of what I had in mind. It’s a good in-between green and blue, and doesn’t make you look sick like some green shades ;) This shade blends like a dream and builds up really nicely on the third coat. It gets really pigmented and vibrant, but I don’t find it gets patchy!

Some looks I’ve been wearing include a simple teal wing, a single color washed all over the lid, or a small swipe on the lower lashline of a neutral look. These are ways to slowly introduce color into your looks without fully investing in the bright look. The matte shades aren’t quite dark enough to create a strong wing, but for a soft one it’s perfect. I’ll use a little bit of water to amp up the color and in combo with a base underneath, the color pops just enough for my liking. I hope that this inspires you to add more color to your routine if you’ve been curious about how it would turn out! More looks with this palette to come on my Instagram!
